Dennis ‘Tubby’ Hargreave took of from an airstrip at Long Murum in Sarawak in 209 Sqn RAF Twin Pioneer XN318. The destination airfield was Labuan. When the aircraft did not arrive, a search was instituted. This was hampered by bad weather.
The burnt-out wreckage of the Pioneer was found a few miles from Long Murum and a rescue party landed by helicopter found that there were no survivors. The bodies of the men were buried at the crash location.

- Flt/Lt Mike Morling
- Pl/Offr James Pearce
- J/Tech J.D. Crane
The Memorial wall at Terendak
Dennis and the other men who died in the crash are commemorated on the Terendak Military Cemetery Memorial Wall at Melaka, Malaysia, and at the National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire.
