Hercules XV193 was on a low-level navigation exercise with two other Hercules aircraft over Scotland. Following the exercise XV1193 separated for a solo exercise involving a simulated air-drop in Glen Tilt, a couple of miles north of Blair Atholl. On completion of the exercise the aircraft turned to exit the glen. During the exit, at low speed and low level, the aircraft stalled and crashed. All nine occupants of XV193 died in the crash.

Pte Christopher Game
Christopher Game was killed on South Cerney DZ by a low flying Hercules. He was on DZ party and was standing on the roof of a HIAB truck, when he was struck by the ramp of Hercules XP186, piloted by Sqn Ldr Michael Morison, which was making a very low pass. The Hercules had completed its drop, and in time-honoured fashion was ‘beating-up’ the DZ.

Sqn Ldr Michael Morison was charged with manslaughter and stood trial at Bristol Crown Court. He was cleared of the charge, but lost his Commission.
